The Story of Alfie
Everyone knows King Alfred the Great was famous in these parts over a thousand years ago - defeating the Danes, building a navy, codifying laws, and encouraging education. School children remember him best as the king that "burned the cakes" (actually it was Alfie that did it after one too many). He had many pets. His favourite was a young wyvern, which he named after himself and lovingly referred to as Alfie. Alfie was a good companion, often accompanying the King to banquets and tournaments, where he would receive his own chalice of ale. When not with the King, he was usually up to some form of mischief - harmless fun, really. In the evenings he would settle in front of the fire at his favourite pub and regale the patrons with stories of his mischief, for which he would often be rewarded with another pint (bear that in mind next time you meet a wyvern). When the King died, Alfie was quite sad and went into a long slumber. You can imagine our surprise when he appeared at the brewery door one afternoon. We had been brewing one of our new beers, which was intensely hoppy. The winds were particularly strong that day, and blew the steam over Alfie's resting spot. Alfie confessed to always being a hop-head, and was awoken from his slumber by the strong aroma. He promised to return a week later to sample the resultant brew. When the time came, he was so impressed by the wonderful flavours that he swore to Drink Moor Beer from now on and pass along the good word. To thank him, we offered to use his image as our main logo. Now you can see Alfie mischievously looking over his chalice of Moor Beer. He is rather protective of his chalice, so we will be making some available to our other loyal customers in the future. In the meantime, grab a pint of Moor Beer in whatever drinking vessel you have to hand and you too can regale us of your adventures.
